He studied under Professor Duan Fujin, a national TCM master, and Professor Piao Bingkui, a famous TCM doctor in China. He inherited the idea of "strengthening body resistance and cultivating the foundation" in the treatment of tumors. He has been working in clinic for more than 30 years, and has accumulated rich clinical experience.
With preventive treatment idea, he is good at preventing and treating postoperative recurrence and metastasis of tumors, lung cancer, digestive system tumors, cancer-related symptoms and precancerous lesions with the methods of clearing and reducing turbidity, and activating qi and blood.
He founded the theory of "regulating qi and detoxifying" and applied it to the prevention and treatment of tumors in TCM, and developed a series of Shuangshen tumor prevention and treatment preparations. As the principal investigator of the national key research and development plan, from the "Tenth Five-Year Plan" to the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" period, he put forward the concept of tumor prevention and control:prevention first, combining prevention and treatment, and focusing on prevention; and established the first cancer prevention clinic in China. He focused his oncology clinical work on the prevention and rehabilitation of precancerous lesions, recurrence and metastasis, and gave full play to the characteristics and advantages of TCM "preventive treatment".
As the project leader, he has successively undertaken 7 national-level projects such as the National Science and Technology Support Program, the Major New Drug Creation Project, and the Project of National Natural Science Foundation of China, and has successively won 2 second-class national science and technology progress awards, and more than 10 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards, obtained 3 patents, and won the honorary title of "National Health System Advanced Worker". At present, he has published a total of 389 academic papers, including 65 SCI articles, and published more than 20 academic works.

Under the Professor Yao Naili and Professor Sun Guizhi, famous TCM masters in the capital, he studied the comprehensive prevention and treatment of chronic stomach disease, chronic liver disease and liver cancer with TCM and Western medicine. He has a unique understanding of the etiology and pathogenesis of chronic hepatitis, liver cirrhosis and liver cancer by summarizing the experience of doctors in the past dynasties in treating chronic liver disease and combining with his own clinical practice.
He used the methods of invigorating qi and strengthening spleen, soothing liver and relieving depression, clearing dampness and heat, detoxifying, promoting circulation of collaterals and removing stasis to treat liver diseases. In accordance with the law of the development of TCM, he created Yinqi Sanhuang Jiedu Decoction, an experience prescription for preventing and treating chronic hepatitis, liver fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer.
The decoction formula was formed under the guidance of the holism concept of TCM and the theories of treatment based on syndrome differentiation and preventive health care, and its scientific research had been supported by the Key Research Program for the TCM Modernization of National Key Research and Development Program.
As the chief scientist of the program and the leader of the sub-center of the liver disease clinical research base of the Ministry of Science and Technology, he also undertakes the research on major special projects of infectious diseases in the national 11th, 12th, and 13th Five-Year Plan.
He first proposed and advocated the Huo Hou theory of TCM . He is good at preventing and treating liver diseases with integrated TCM and Western medicine, and has unique curative effects on chronic atrophic gastritis and infertility.
He was the first to use clinical epidemiological methods to study the syndromes of hepatitis B fibrosis, filling the gap in the field of TCM research. In cooperation with the National Center for Nanomedicine, he carried out researches on the mechanisms of biomechanopharmacology, genomics after TCM intervention for chronic liver diseases, which are in a pioneering and leading position in China.
